Tips for removing salt stains from leather boots

Submitted by fashionhanker

If you live in a region where it snows a lot in the winter, your leather boots are more likely to be stained by the salted streets. Although salts provide extra traction when we walk down icy street, they will leave stain marks on our boots. Below you will find some simple steps to remove them.

First, use a clean soft cloth to gent clean them with a solution in proportion of two parts of water and one part of white vinegar. Keep on washing until the stains on the leather boots are dissolved. Then towel dry the boots with another dry clean cloth.

Next, allow your leather boots dry in the air for some hours after you finish cleaning them. Check them again to see if there are stains you missed. If any, wash it once again. Salt stains could only be seen after your leather boots are totally dried out.

Finally, never forget to condition your boots they are completely dried. Coat your boots with some polish and rub them with a soft cloth to give a shine according to special instructions. Polishing your shoes at a regular basis will keep the integrity of leather and reduce the harm of sidewalk salt on them. It is also very important to apply a protective layer on your boots especially in cold winter days. This will protect your boots from harsh winter elements such as snow, ice and salt.

Your leather boots will stay in their optimal condition if you care for them regularly according the steps above.
