Tips To Help You Choose Your Next Chandelier

Submitted by rss41

The original Chandeliers were lit with candles while they were mounted from the ceiling. Today, candles are replaced with pendant lights and bulbs that somehow resemble candles. While before such lighting fixtures were exclusive to extremely wealthy families and institutions, in our time though we can enjoy discount chandeliers.

Unlike in the old times, a contemporary chandelier has several lamps and delicately arranged glass shapes to disperse the light in remarkable patterns. These crystal lights often constitute candle holders and prisms that reflect the light. Better yet, they can also be bought as discount chandeliers.

Depending on your standards and the theme of the area to which you are going to install the ceiling light, modern and classical chandeliers fixtures come in Rustic, Crystal, Contemporary and Antique style. Their materials are also varied. There are chandeliers made from glass, metal and wood. They can also be lit with bulbs, candles or gas.

Besides the Style and Design, the Size of the Chandelier light fixture is also varied; and so are its layers. There is a single layer fixture as well as double, triple and multi-layered hanging light fixtures that can fit all sizes of the room. If you chance upon discount chandeliers, then you can have savings.

If the room is not larger than 10' by 10', a chandelier between 17" and 20" diameter is the perfect match. 26" to 27" diameter chandelier would fit right to a room of 12' by 12'; and so does a chandelier of 24" to36" diameter to a room of 14' by 14'. To implement safety measures, Chandeliers must have the standard distance from the surface of the table to 30", lest some heads would bump into the light.

If the ceiling height is low, you can still opt for grand chandelier but shorter with fewer levels. It is important that you know the safe distance to install the great centerpiece. Know if this chandelier fixture is the only source of light in your room.

In installing chandelier in the kitchen, a wider distance is required because people rarely sit on the kitchen unless you have an island which requires another hanging fixture. Chandeliers of the perfect size and style placed in the corner of the ceiling are splendid.

In choosing the right fixture for your kitchen, consider the strength and capacity to give off brightness on top of its design. Since kitchen requires different kind of illumination relevant to the tasks done on this room, it is important to have flexible lighting system.

Visit your local lighting shops for up close look at the different fixtures. Who knows, there may even be remarkable discount chandeliers waiting for you at the shop. A kitchen Chandelier should not shoulder all task lighting. Instead, it should complement other lights already installed on the kitchen.

You can also mount a great chandelier on top of your staircase to provide general illumination from the upper and lower floors. You can choose the one that has 4 to 5 layers depending on the ceiling height. Chandeliers put on top of the staircase can be a great source of decoration as well.

Chandeliers add beauty and elegance when put in your bedroom or bathroom. You need to consider the task lighting and other sources of light you have for the area. If you decide to have the chandelier as the source of general illumination, you should consider its lighting capacity. You can use dimmer switch to adjust its brightness according to the need. They can also serve as complementary light, in which, the brightness is fixed and not very high.
