Tips To Select And Maintain Leather Furniture ItemsSubmitted by sarikakabra
Who does not love a piece of furniture made of leather? Leather adds a touch of elegance and beauty that is unique. Even if your home decor is simple, adding leather recliners or a sofa set can make your house look well coordinated and arranged. However, buying leather takes a lot of research and money, so people either avoid it altogether or do a lot of window shopping before settling on any piece. There is no single type of leather best suited to all tastes and decorations. Your lifestyle and budgetary considerations are going to be deciding factors for the actual purchase.
There are different kinds of leather available in the market. One of them is naturally finished leather. This is the supplest type available in any furniture store. As its name suggests, this type of leather is least processed ensuring that its natural beauty stays intact. Also, naturally finished leather requires minimal care. Another type of leather is brushed leather which has a more polished look and feels luxurious. It does require much more maintenance than the previously mentioned type. Next is the distressed leather that goes through a special process to give it a rugged look. There are subtle color variations and it wears well. Finally there is the protected leather which provides a lot of stain protection and has uniform color. If you have kids or pets in your family, this type would be ideal for you. Once you have decided upon the type of leather you want and bought the sofa or other living room furniture, you will have to worry about the maintenance. Your leather furniture can look as beautiful as on the day it was bought if you pay a little attention to its overall upkeep. Leather often lasts for a very long time if well cared for. For everyday cleaning, you can use the simple dusting method using a dry cloth. You could also vacuum clean the crevices and other hard to reach areas of the sofa set. A good leather conditioner is a must if you want the leather to always look polished. Also, keep your leather furniture away from direct sunlight. It is possible that the color of leather might fade with overexposure to bright lights. Clean any spills immediately with a cloth and then wipe off with moistened cloth and allow the area to dry naturally. It is not recommended to use soap or excess water as these could damage the quality. Any other kind of household cleaning liquids are to be strictly avoided. For persistent stains, it is better to call a professional leather cleaner rather than experiment with home made solutions. Leather can maintain its natural allure for a very long time if special care is provided. Any abrasive solution or other furniture polish will do more harm than good. So treat your leather with patience and gentleness and you will be rewarded with a beautiful piece forever. About the Author
