Top Bed Tips for the Over 50's

As we get older our bodies don't work quite as well as they used to and many suffer ailments that can deteriorate when our bodies aren't supported by our bed. When you need a new bed have a think about the type of bed that best suits your body, do you go for a softer or harder mattress. You can test if the mattress is right for you by lying down on the bed and then trying to slip your hand between your back and the bed. If it goes in to easily then it is too soft and too hard if you can fit your hand in fairly easily.

Do take your time lying on a bed to make sure it is right for you, don't feel pressured to rush, spend at least ten minutes in different positions until you are happy with the bed. Older people have more sensitive joints and do suffer more back problems so it is important to find a good bed from one of the many good beds available.

Consider how easily you can get in and out of the bed, go for a higher bed and not a low-down which you may struggle to get out of should your develop back problems. If you find that you spend a lot of your time in bed for example reading a lot, then a firmer bed would better support your back and if you often sit on the edge of a bed then a firmer base will make you feel safer.

If you do spend a lot of time in bed then there are extras that you can buy to better support you. You can get beds with adjustable head, neck, leg and foot rests, ideal for book worms or those who have high blood pressure.

If you have a partner that prefers different beds to you for example maybe a harder base then you can both get what you want with linked the beds. They are two separate bases and mattresses that join together while meeting the requirements for both parties. They can be separated should one partner catch an illness or are disturbed by the other during the night.
