Vacuum Cleaner Review of the NSS Outlaw B/V

Submitted by madiso10

The Outlaw B/V is a compact backpack vacuum at only 8 inches wide. It has a comfortable harness system and a generously long cord at 50ft, making it one of the more versatile machines available on the market. The 2 stage motor is a nice touch, as it allows for more power produced from a single motor and makes for a backpack with excellent suction. The Outlaw B/V offers the best of all worlds in that it is a lightweight, compact style with a lot of power and the ability to be versatile in a number of areas. Where larger units would be cumbersome such as theaters, auditoriums, retail stores, offices, even aircraft, the Outlaw B/V is a perfect machine.

One of the nicest features of the Outlaw B/V is the design of the canister. It is triangular and well-thought out at only 8 inches wide. The triangular shape results in better suction and also allows the operator quite a bit of room to maneuver between tight spaces and even under objects with some ease. At only 10 lbs, it is easy for the wearer to put on and take off and operate for longer periods of time without fatigue. The canister is manufactured from sturdy rotocast polyethylene and is built with commercial use in mind.

The Outlaw B/V is a pricier vacuum at $600-$800 dollars, especially when you consider that the optional tool kits are yet an extra charge at $100-800 dollars. The trade-off is the generous 3-year warranty on the motor and the 10-year warranty on the body. This machine is a great investment in the long run when considering the overall quality of the unit. Everything from the buckles on the harness to the pigtail cord connection demonstrates the amount of fine tuning that went into the design of this machine. The 2 stage motor is a smart option to boost power without adding weight and bulk to the backpack. Even the venting is well-planned with gaps on the lower part of the unit to allow air passage without overheating the motor if the unit is set on the floor while running.

Other options available on the Outlaw B/V include an optional snap-on HEPA filter attachment and an optional outlet that can be used with a Powerwand for more heavy duty jobs. The large 1.5 inch intake hose prevents clogging and readily fits the variety of tools available either as kits or ala carte. There are tools available for every possible application. The Outlaw B/V comes in 120volt (US), 240volt (Europe), and 120v, 400hz for easy plug in while cleaning aircraft.

The Outlaw B/V is a high quality vacuum, however, the only things to consider are the loudness of the motor at 75db (the industry average is between 65-70db), and the average size of the motor at 7 amp (low end is 5 amp, top end is 12 amp). Although a powerful motor for the size of the unit, there are more powerful backpack vacuums available, even if they are much bulkier. Therefore, it is very important to match the machine to the job and have a good idea what will be expected over the long haul before making your purchase.
