VersaTube Carports Assemble with Ease

Submitted by mjmarks

Maybe you have recently decided it is time to consider the purchase and assembly of one of the many VersaTube carports on the market. Or maybe you already made your purchase and are now facing the task of assembling it. Either way, you are in for a satisfying and confidence building experience, if you marshal your good can-do attitude, can follow basic instructions, enlist the help of a friend or two, and get to work.

VersaTube carports assemble with ease and I will walk you through much of what you can expect when you launch into the job. When your new carport arrives you will have natural concerns about what to do, but you will likely be excited as you pull back the shipping tarp and start going through the parts to verify that you got everything you need. This is good, because like any other project, you will need to go through the learning curve as you interpret and follow the instructions.

Carefully set the sheet metal to the side, taking care to not let an edge grab your skin. I always like to wear gloves when dealing with metal carports. A nasty cut from a metal edge is no fun. As you begin to set up the frame you'll note right away how simple and straight forward assembly really is with a VersaTube building. The tubing is substantial and swaged. This means that at the end where one tube fits inside the other, it has an indentation built in it to make it easy to slide into the other non-swaged frame tube that it intersects with. Connect the frame pieces together with the included screws and secure it to your foundation with spikes. Thankfully, these steps require only basic tools like screw guns and hammers.

Carports are basically a covered space. Once you have the pieces on the ground assembled and secured to the earth (or concrete) you start attaching the upright overhead frame members. It really helps to have a helper for this. The uprights fit down over short vertical members coming up from the foundation tubes. I can picture the smile on your face as the first overhead tube frame sinks securely into place. It is starting to take shape, and it is actually pretty fun to see.

Once all the frame members are secured in place you can start covering it with the sheet metal. Again, be sure to wear gloves and be careful. Carports made out of metal are strong and functional, you just need to take care when assembling so nobody gets hurt. One of the things many people forget is to be extra careful if there is a breeze. The wind will have its way with a sheet of metal, and this can be quite dangerous to you or others if it gets away from you. Once you have installed the first piece up at the ridge you just work your way along until you have it completely done. Then work your way down each side, continuing to be cautious as you go. There are sticky strips that you apply to each sheet for the next sheet to adhere to. This keeps water and critters from getting into the space between sheets.

Carports, like the ones from VersaTube, finish off with a rubber gasket that not only keeps the edges safe, but look great. Now stand back and enjoy your new carport!
