Why Should You Test Your House for Mold?

Submitted by gmanty

There has been a lot of press coverage recently concerning the issue of mold spores and mold toxicity in homes around America. It is a serious concern for a lot of new homeowners and experienced homeowners alike. But with the plethora of issues the modern family has to worry about these days, it can be tempting for homeowners to sweep this last, little worry under the carpet. Mold, however, is one of those problems you never want to forget about until it's too late. The following are just a few reasons why you should get your house tested for mold as soon as possible.

Molds can be potentially fatal. Good enough reason, yes? Although not the most common molds, toxic molds can still be present in many homes in the U.S. In fact, there are currently 10,000 toxic mold cases pending in the courts… and that's only the ones that have been uncovered. Culprits like Stachybotrys and Memnoniella can cause severe respiratory ailments that are potentially fatal. They are particularly dangerous to infants and small children. Even the molds that aren't toxic can still cause severe allergic reactions and respiratory ailments.

A lot of homes on the market have been sitting unoccupied. With the financial and foreclosure crises, a lot of homes have been sitting on the market without occupants for some time now. So? Well, when homes are not regularly cleaned and left untended, they are that much more likely to end up with mold problems. When you add high summer temperatures and severe humidity in some regions, you're left with a good number of homes that have become literal breeding grounds for unhealthy mold spores.

Mold problems aren't always obvious. Molds can hide behind walls and ceilings and not be at all obvious to the naked, untrained eye. You may think that your house is mold-free, but there's no way to be sure without running a professional test. Undetected problems can be growing dramatically behind your walls without your knowledge.

You have options. Getting a quality mold inspection or home mold testing kit is not complicated. A quality home testing kit for mold can help you quickly assess if there is any danger of mold toxicity in your home. A well-trained and certified inspector can also run a thorough inspection of your home and, if mold is found, inform you as to your options.
