Changing the way you operate a dishwasher can help you to save a considerable amount of energy. This applies to whether you are buying a new one or you are using the existing one. By saving the energy means that you also save money and the environment because the sources of energy will not be exhausted faster. Everybody would want to save on the money they spend on doing something therefore you should think of ways of saving when using a dishwasher. Here are some of the tips that will help you to save energy while using the dishwasher.

You should try to maximize on the energy saving cycles when need be. Try as much as possible to identify the energy saving cycles so that you can use them whenever possible. By identifying these energy saving cycles means that you will only be using the dishwasher when there is an alternative to the energy you are using. Another energy saving tip is if you have a dishwasher that has got a booster heater, you should turn down the heater thermostat. This is so because most dishwasher booster heaters can raise the temperature of water for at least 20 F therefore you should set your heater to 120 F and it will be fine to you. Incase the dishwasher needs to boost the temperature, and then the washing cycle will be longer not unless you want to wash several loads in a row.

If your dishwasher has a no-heat- air-dry feature you should use it but if you are using an older dishwasher that do not have this feature you will be required to turn the dishwasher off when you are through with the final rinse cycle and keep the door open for complete drying. Do not pre-rinse the utensils before you put them in the dishwasher. This is because modern dishwasher can even clean heavily dishes all you need to do is to scrape off food and do away with the liquid and the rest will be left for the dishwasher. You should use cold water if it is a must that you rinse the dishes first. In addition you should wash only full loads since the dishwasher uses the same amount of water whether it is half load or full load.

You should learn to put the dishes in the dishwasher and running them with water throughout the day because it uses less water and energy than washing the dishes by hand. You will use a lot of water if you wash the dishes by hand than if you could have use the dishwasher and thus you will be using a lot of energy for nothing. You can measure how much water can be used if you wash your dishes by hand thereby requiring more energy to boil the water you are using to wash them. By knowing these saving energy tips will help you quite a lot in washing your dishes.
