Window Drapes

Any design-conscious person knows that window drapes speak volumes about the resident of a home. Whether your style is more traditional and having drapery — such as tailored pleat, pinch pleat, inverted pleat, grommet drapery, ripple fold drapery, cubicle drapery, rod pocket drapery or goblet drapery — is your style, or you lean more towards a contemporary look, like an eco-friendly solar shade or a plain and simple roller shade - what adorns your windows says an awful lot. The big task is to make sure it doesn't look awful.

When you're in the market for window drapes, it's critical to look at the big picture of the room in which they'll be going before making any decisions. Is there a patterned sofa? A loud rug? Do you have a wallpaper with personality or a paint color with pizzazz? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, then maybe you just need something simple. You can still choose window drapes or a roman shade or whatever style suits your fancy, but make sure that whatever you choose doesn't fight — design-wise — with what's already there.

However, if you're starting with a blank slate - if the walls are white, the floor is bare and you've yet to get furniture in the room, then lucky you! There are so many luscious, vibrant colors and patterns available - you're bound to find something that speaks to your personality and that of your home. But then just remember that whatever you to do furnish and decorate the room after that will have to be matched to your windows. A happy problem, indeed!
