A day night security camera is a very common type that is used outdoors that will fulfill most needs and expectations of a security camera. This type of camera was built for when limited artificial light is used to illuminate the surveillance area. Some of them use a different aperture setting to allow more light in while others actually change from color to monochrome to get the proper resolution.

Many of the lower cost day night security camera's can be purchased for under $200. The top of the line day night security camera can run up $500. The sophistication and resolution that is needed is the choice of the person doing the purchasing or is set by the allotted budget. The more expensive ones have as many as 540 lines of resolution in color and 570 lines for monochrome.

The changing from color to monochrome is accomplished with the use of an IR filter. These do produce a very clear picture even in very limited lighting situations. Most of these day night security cameras do have a limitation of surveillance area. Most only have excellent resolution for the first 24 feet.

When deciding on which style and type is perfect for your situation, chose your day night security camera with the knowledge of the environment it will be operating in. Not only the available light but the moisture level as well. Depending on what part of the country the unit will be deployed in will help determine if it will be in direct contact with a weather system. The north wind during the winter in North American is a good example. If the day night security camera that is chosen cannot handle the elements then another choice should be made.

There is more to decide on than the lighting when choosing the right day night security camera for your security system.
