Making Sure Your Home Fully is SecureSubmitted by lancemohr Mon, 17 Mar 2008
As you have spent time on the Tampa real estate market looking for the ideal home, one of your considerations obviously has been to make sure that you end up buying a home in a safe and secure neighborhood. You understand the importance of making sure that any Tampa real estate you select is located in an area that has a reputation for being safe and secure.
What you need to understand is that the effort to make sure that you have a completely safe and secure home does not end when you have made the purchase of your ideal residential home. In fact, there are some very basic steps that you need to take once you have taken possession. First of all – and this particularly is the case if you are purchasing an older home – you need to take into consideration the door locks to your home. Particularly if you are buying an older home, chances are that a number of people will have keys to the locks to the doors of the home. Therefore, it is very important for you to replace the locks on the outer doors to the home before you actually start moving into the property. Along these same lines, if the doors on the home you are purchasing lack deadbolts, you will want to make sure that you do add deadbolts to the outer doors of your home. Deadbolts add an important added level of protection and security. (You may also be able to realize a reduction in the price of your homeowners insurance by adding deadbolts to the outer doors of your new home.) Beyond the doors, when it comes to purchasing a new home, you need to inspect the locks on each and every window. If you find that the locks on windows are not functioning properly, it is crucial that you replace the locks immediately. Moreover, if you are purchasing an older home, you may want to consider replacing all of the window locks to ensure maximum security. You will want to make sure that you make available to trusted family members of friends one or two sets of keys to your home so that they will be available in the event of an emergency. Long gone are the days when you should “hide” an extra key outside of your home. The reality is that ill intentioned people – criminals – have long ago learned all of the secret hiding places used by people who want to keep an extra key available to their doors. I personally use a contractor’s lock box. You can buy the numeric ones at Home Depot or Lowes. By paying attention to these tips and pointers you will be working to ensure that your new home is safe and secure for you and your family – a security that will serve you well not only today but into the future.
