Mass Mailing Pyramid Schemes

Submitted by Fabiola Castillo
Tue, 25 Dec 2007

Ponzi marketing schemes also known as pyramid schemes are illegal money making schemes in which people earn money by signing up other people who will in turn make money by signing up even more people with no product or service changing hands.

One can receive unsolicited spam e-mail being sent out in mass quantities by perpetrators of this scam. The e-mail invites you to join in on a very lucrative bulk e-mail business. You will be lured to signup for this program because it offers the opportunity to make huge amounts of money with little or no money of your own.

Similar to Ponzi marketing schemes, you will be asked to pay a signup for and then will be given the choice to signup as many people as you want in your downline and have them sell the same junk via a mass e-mail system.

The expenses can be very small so that it seems like a good investment for you. You will then be offered a part of the proceeds generated by each participant's income. The cost can be somewhere between $20 to $40, and many people will succumb to this scam.
Warning Signs of a Pyramid Scheme

They will tell you that this business is currently operating worldwide, and that the potential to make big money is huge yet there are little to no details regarding the program. This is because there are no details after they get you to signup more people so that they can signup even more people. If you hear the phrase "ground floor opportunity" or "the time is now," you really need to stop and think about this opportunity. If you receive ten e-mails related to this business opportunity in one day, then you really need to think about this one because the window of opportunity no longer exists. Any business system that depends on a geometric process of signing up other people but no product or service changes hands is mostly like a crooked scam operation.
How to Guard Yourself From This Scam

The best way to guard yourself from this kind of scam is to avoid them. One mass mailing e-mail system that got many complaints is the Web Fisher system. Distributors have been reporting that they have not been getting paid from their downline. Run fast, and be on the offensive when you come across these "too good to be true" offers. There is no such thing as "get rich quick" schemes.

There are lots of consumer fraud schemes out there such as the Ponzi/pyramid scheme. It is up to you, the consumer, to educate yourself to recognize what is and is not legitimate. By doing so, you can minimize becoming a victim to this crime of pyramid marketing.
