It can be a tornado, just a thunderstorm with high winds, a hurricane or the dreaded ice storm. All of these (and other) wild weather events can topple trees and/or cause large limbs to hurl earthward. In the process, your home, business, or car can succumb to the combined effect of weight and gravity.

Once you realize what has happened, you'll probably want to join with your neighbors to quickly start removing the downed tree matter and/or repairing and/or covering gaps in your home or business. But, you may want to rethink this.

Aside from the potential instability of a tree or large limb (the tree or limb can shift and roll over onto you or your neighbors), felled trees and limbs often bring power lines down, too. And you definitely don't want to be doing clean-up with potential for live wires nearby.

In addition, trees are heavy. According to the International Society of Arboriculture, trees can easily weigh into the many thousands to tens of thousands of pounds. Consider that a pine or spruce tree weighs about 34 pounds per cubic foot (even taking into account differences that may result from disease, drought and other factors). Other trees like Live Oak and Hickory can weigh nearly double this. Most other trees are in the 40 to 60 pound per cubic foot range.

If one does the math, a 40-foot tall pine tree with a diameter of 4 feet will weigh about 17,000 pounds. One would have to cut this up into 850 20-pound logs in order to easily move the wood to the curb area for pick up or to the woodpile for storage. It would take considerable time and effort to undertake this task.

In some cases, the whole tree may not be lost, but it may require uprighting and anchoring, trimming and/or sealing.

It really makes sense to get a proven tree removal service to take charge. Such companies have the tools to saw through large tree trunks, lift logs, remove or grind a stump, collect debris and otherwise clean up a yard or parking lot. They also typically have needed connections with insurance companies to ensure that you can be reimbursed for some of the tree services.

And while the debris is being removed, you can be making arrangements for a veteran building repair service to seal your home (at least temporarily) from the elements.

A Plus Tree and Crane Services, Inc. should be your company of choice to handle these types of services, especially if you live in North Carolina, Virginia, Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas.
