Looking Into Suede for Furniture Options

Submitted by Celeste

Suede is leather that has gone through a very intense complicated process of having its grain completely removed. The material is usually from the flesh side of the leather. This is why they maintain their soft touch and almost fuzzy appearance.

Factories generally apply a finish to the suede which acts a stain and water resistance, however it is always a good idea, when looking at suede furniture, to ask the sale rep about this as well as maintenance care as each finish is slightly different from one another.

For furniture makers, suede is easy to use and manipulated around odd angles for armchairs, ottomans and couches. For buyers, suede is a classic element that fits in with most interior styles as it comes in a variety of colours as well as different types of furniture.

When considering where to place your furniture, it is advised that for dyed suede, to be kept out of direct sunlight as there is chance that the colour might fade over time. Direct heat can also damage the material.

Cleaning is fairly easy and most marks can be removed with just a simple vacuum, using a soft brush attachment. Alternatively you can also just use a soft clothes brush, which will also pick up any dust or particles. One of the best things about suede furniture is that it is naturally resistance to pet hair. Due to the structure of the material, hair naturally doesn’t stick to it like it would with cloth furniture.

For the few stains that refuse to be removed with a damp cloth, try working dry cornmeal into it. After a couple of hours, brush it off and the mark should come off as well. Being a type of leather, the material is hardwearing and naturally durable for every day use. Because of this, it is highly recommended for almost every homeowner.

With companies creating practically everything, from bed sheets to couches, in suede you can use suede as a core material throughout your home. Most people prefer the dark chocolate variations as with its soft touch, it literally oozes luxury and class whether it is a gentleman’s club style study or even contemporary looking lounge.

Whether you have children that not only see a couch as a sitting tool, but as a jumping castle as well, or if you have pets that love to rub themselves on anything including your furniture, suede can handle all situations, not only with ease, but in complete classy style as well.
