Why are fake flowers so popular right now? Well it's easy, we don't have the time to care for and maintain real flowers. Real flowers require water and attention and even then they only last a few days. Artificial flower have also gotten much more real looking. In many cases, you really need to look closely at even the bargain silk flowers to know whether they are fake. The process of making artificial flowers has become so sophisticated and the materials so advanced that the industry is duplicating flowers in a way not thought possible a decade ago.
So here are some tips for decorating with fake flowers:
Tip Number One: By far the easiest thing to do with any flower is to drop it in a vase. Artificial Flowers are no different. Silk Flowers are sold as individual stems (usually in quantities of 6 or 12). The flowers come in many more styles than a flower shop. Match the flower style color to complement the vase. I personally love the tulips, but you should be able to find your favorite. After the vase is full put it on the dining room table.
Tip number Two: This is the easiest. Most home offices are boring. Outside of a few pictures, most offices have very few décor items. The fake flower industry makes a lot of potted plants. On my desk now, I have a small potted red geranium in a lovely green ceramic planter. This is always in bloom and once a month I blow some dust off. There are a lot of choices here, especially orchids.
Tip Number Three: Corners drive you nuts. It's impossible to decorate this area. Most people either ignore them or throw a table in them. Here an alternate and very colorful idea. Get a corner shelf. There are some that are really easy to install. Buy a fake flower bush, a really full one. Typically you'll want one that is 30-40" long. Wisteria and Azalea work great. Find a small cheap pot (if you do this right it won't be seen), 8" tall maximum. Fill it with small rocks (any landscape rock will do). Plant the flowers. Put on the shelf and shape it so the planter and shelf are well hidden and the flowers look like they are filling the area.
There are endless possibilities of the things you can do with fake flowers.
