Website Design - How To Resurrect A Poorly Performing SiteSubmitted by hemaelsherbiny Wed, 29 Jun 2011
Web design has grown up in the past few years, which means your site not only needs to be visually appealing to your target audience, but it should help them stay longer, spend some quality time on it and take the required action. If you are not sure how to make that happen, then some knowledge of design mistakes will be a good idea for you to learn.
One of the cardinal sins with site design is poor navigation, and most of your visitors will not tolerate it. While we can enumerate a handful of alternatives, the most important advice we can make is that this design aspect has to hit the mark. One important addition that should always be assumed is the ability to let people search your sites. Of course there will be times when a visitor is looking for something very specific, and that is why the search field is valuable. If your readers like your site and content, then this will merely be the icing on the cake. Besides this, you should try and avoid having "drop down" menus on your site. We are sure some readers do not appreciate it, but if everything else is spot-on, then there should be no problems. When you use drop down menus, it might hide the important information and confuse the visitors. If your URLs are totally beat and ugly, then if possible you should do something about it. With so many tools available to fix this issue, there is really no need to have ugly URLs. Much depends on the situation and why the URL is long and unwieldy. There is nothing wrong with using your primary keywords, though, if you want to SEO your site. We tend to think that most IM marketers just prefer to have the kinds of URLs that are memorable. Many people tend to have problems copying and pasting complex URLs because even missing one single digit can lead to a broken link. Wordpress blogs have their own little app included that allows you to change the permalink structure of your URLs. It doesn't matter what your favorite color is, you need to seriously focus on the color scheme of your site as per the view of your target audience. You can easily find color wheels on the net that help you choose color combinations. Always think about the effect your choices will have on your target audience. As always, you do need to remove your feelings if you are not a part of that audience or market. Remember, the more appealing your visitors find your site, the higher are the chances of them returning back. Web site usability are two sides of the same coin, so you have to keep that in mind as you work to improve your results.
