When re designing your home make sure you think long and hard about the wiring.Submitted by Craven Wed, 4 Jun 2008
Whether you are planning for a fitted kitchen or a more sleepy traditional kitchen design ensure that you take into consideration how many sockets are required, and if the room is going to have enough lighting. This sounds fairly basic but you will be shocked at how many amateurs who begin the arduous job of fitting their kitchen, only to find that a little way along the task they don’t have enough sockets for their devices or forget to allow for the collection of spotlights above the sink. make sure that you plan the workspace layout in rough on a notepad and take into account all of the electrical equipment and lighting before you start work (you could always run it past an electrical contractor).
To ensure that you get the most from your lighting be it lights for inside or lights for outside you need to look into the type of luminescent effect you need. An external light could be a piercing tungsten light that brightens if it senses movement or a low wattage light that allows the option of either being turned on and off or turns itself on from nightfall till sunrise and offers good visibility with less environmental pollution. Internally the selection of flourescents, spot and standard bulb are large, it is worth consulting your area electrical contractor to ensure that your present wiring can deal with more intense loading. After working in a workshop I find it all to convenient to keep placing parts of machinery here, more heating there and ignoring the loading of the power supply. Unfortunately what can happen in extreme situations is that the wiring can begin to heat up and potentially cause a fire or electrical issue. The alternative thing to watch in a workshop is that any wiring that is exposed is not in the path of any objects that might topple onto it. If you email a local electrician they will be more than happy to survey the cabling and tell you if the site needs rewiring. About the Author
