As the dust begins to settle from parents rounding up their children's toys after the national lead paint recalls, many eco-conscious parents now wonder how they should dispose these confiscated toys. The toys' lead paint is highly toxic and known to cause a range of health problems in young children. There is no question that parents should immediately remove these toys from the home and away from children. Naturally, most parents would just throw the toys away without giving it a second thought. However, throwing toxic toys in the trash carries serious consequences, as these same toxins will eventually end up in a landfill and back into our drinking water.

Someone said a month ago that the pet food announcements of March, 2007 were just the tip of the iceberg and I would say that person was aware of the lack of safety protocols in China. Expert analysis conducted by Expertox a company in Texas established in 1996 that have over fifty years of environmental assessments tested pet toys sold in Walmart.

So how are we, as consumers, going to handle the holidays? The first step is to seek out reputable companies to purchase toys and other gifts from. The most environmentally-sound approach is to find suppliers or stores that sell safe products in your neck of the woods. Join the local chapter of the holistic moms group, don't worry dads, you can join too (www.holisticmoms.org) and ask other members where to shop. If there are no local options, many safe products are available online.

Environment Themed Gifts: The products like Dome Terrarium, Nyokki, Eggling, Antworks are popular in the toyland recently. For example, Nyokki is made from Japan and it means grow. It allows your kid to plant a ray grass in a cute cartoon character container.

The United States is the major carbon producer in the world, but we do try, albeit halfheartedly. We no longer, legally, pollute for profit, we do have safeguards. Our future lies in creating environmentally friendly alternative fuels, where China's future is coal, oil and toxic waste. China cannot continue its growth with environmentally friendly practices. It has to pollute.

Stories continue to emerge regarding toxins in shellfish and sea mammals and there are the never ending articles about chemicals and hormones found in our food and the toxic toys from China. From a health viewpoint, it is clear that we are filling our bodies and those of our children with chemicals which are responsible for a wide ranging list of diseases and symptoms. It is known in biology that one of the leading causes of biological mutation is environmental stress on an organism. We are obviously being stressed and it is anyone's guess as to the impact that these toxins will have on the future health of humanity. Conclusions are not encouraging and it should be clear that if you poison the planet, its vegetation and wildlife, there can be little doubt about what we are doing to ourselves.

Toy phones are also great developmental toys because babies learn to mimic your phone behavior. They familiarize themselves with the various electronics and appliances around the house and what they are used for. The toy phone is a prime example of how your baby can broaden the scope of his world through a troy.
