Kid Friendly Decorating with Children's RugsSubmitted by Kindermark Wed, 17 Jun 2009
A challenge at doctor's offices is keeping kids happy while they are waiting to be seen by their doctor. Going to the doctor can be scary and uncomfortable for some kids, and the wait can make them even more anxious. Doctor's offices have toys for kids to play with while they are waiting which keeps the kids occupied and the parents happy. It also distracts them for a little while and can calm any nerves they might have about being seen. While keeping kids healthy is a doctor's top priority, it is also important to them that their patients are happy and feel safe at their office. Decorating in a kid friendly manner can make a family's experience at the doctor's office better.
Waiting rooms should have toys for kids to play with, but you can also find décor that is educational and can be used as a toy itself. A great decorating tip for doctor's office waiting rooms is to have children's rugs. Kids like to play on the floor and move around their toy trains or colored blocks. For crawling babies it can be more comfortable on a rug than compared to the bare floor. There are many different types of children's rugs that come with different images, designs, textures, and colors. Finding the right rug is different for waiting rooms than your home. For waiting rooms, you have to find a rug that will hold up to more foot traffic and playing. At home, only your child and their friends will be playing on it, so there will be less wear and tear. For a doctor's office, it would be best to find a rug that is easy to clean since there probably isn't a washer and dryer at the office like there would be at your home. You can find rugs that are specifically designed for girls, boys, or neutral. If you are decorating at home you can be more specific with the design of the rug but for waiting rooms it is best to find a neutral designed rug. There are rugs with pictures of cities on them with buildings, streets, shops, and people that both boys and girls could play with. You could also get a multi colored rug with colored blocks, or find an area rug that has games designed on it like tic-tac-toe. For something more educational you could decorate the area with a rug that has letters or numbers on it. Find a rug that will appropriate for the child or waiting room you are decorating.
