Troubled teens often with emotional and behavioral disorders lag academically as they are not able to concentrate in their studies. Curriculum for troubled teens is designed to inspire and realize the youth about the importance of education in their lives. Counseling along with behavioral and emotional therapy is also an integral part of the curriculum. Schools which admit troubled teens give extra coaching in different subjects so that they are no left out. Curriculum for troubled teens includes detailed study of subjects such as English, Mathematics, Social Sciences, and Sciences for various grades. The different types of programs that camps offer provide teen's psychological help to a good extent. The fixes are said to be gradual, but with encouragement and more substantial help, the teens should progress. The fact is most teens become rebellious at some point in their life. Some may not be very transparent, but others become very vocal and physical.

There are lots of factors that cause a youngster to be violent. Studies report that drug or alcohol use, weak control over behavior, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, difficulties with information-processing, easy access to weapons, and frequent exposure to violence through the media are all responsible for the increase in violent behavior in troubled teens. Troubled teens programs provide healthy diets and a healthy daily routine. They sleep early, wake up early, and have plenty of healthy physical exercises and activities in between. A nutritionist oversees the dietary needs of students and the staff gets to know the specific special dietary needs of each child upon admission. Basically the camps are a perfect place where any parent can consider sending their child, who might have wandered in the wrong direction.

The main strength of therapeutic boarding schools is that they provide individual and group therapy and counseling sessions, and they provide it on a frequent and consistent basis. Before being accepted into the program, they would also be receiving an initial psychoanalysis that would be very helpful in determining what track they would follow for the duration of their stay in therapy. Boot camps for troubled teens are often military-style institutions that operate specifically for ill-mannered and disobedient teens. The purpose of boot camps is to help the child. The methods may seem cruel because the instructors do not treat the teens as though they are babies but instead treat them like thinking people who have made their own choices and are being forced to deal with the repercussions of those choices.

Youngsters who experience or suffer from several physical or emotional symptoms, family problems, or school problems make troubled teens. The symptoms include fatigue, red eyes, changes in moods or personality, depression, low self-esteem, irritability, refusing to accept authority, having a negative attitude, getting in trouble at school, etc. Generally, troubled teens are of two types. The first type of teens is very introverted and they do not talk to most other people, particularly adults. The second type is just the opposite of the first. They are extroverted and speak openly about any ideas of violence. Most of them fight back against their attackers.
