Strategies to Convince Kids to Occupy their RoomsSubmitted by Ashtonhome Tue, 2 Jun 2009
Children, at some point, need to exercise their freedom and independence. They cannot be under their parents\' guiding arms and watchful eyes for the rest of their lives. One of the many activities that are directed at realizing a child\'s freedom at his or her early stage is having to occupy his or her own space. He or she needs to learn to act independently and make his or her own decision. However, this transitional stage remains a challenging task for parents. Children usually find it difficult to be away from their parents, even during sleeping hours. But they have to learn to put themselves to bed. It cannot be enough that parents would have to bribe their kids with fancy toys or high end KidKraft pieces. They need to be smart and reasonable, since kids of this generation are becoming smarter and smarter too. Motivation should come in various ways that are positive, which are truly coming from a responsible state of mind.
1) Physical aspect. This is the simplest and the most common way of luring a child to do something. To put it simply, this is called a reward or incentive approach. You may forge a deal with your kid by offering him or her something in return for taking a brand new step of his stage of development. Promise to buy him or her something really special or take your child to a special treat, like a visit to an amusement park. You may either ask him or her what he or she prefers or just keep it as a surprise. It could be his or her favorite toy or food that he or she has been longing for. There is another way to convince your child, which you can employ in complementary to the first. Since you will be pushing him or her to take over his or her own place, you have to make the place really attractive. You need to put the necessary toys in place, as well as the proper furniture including childrens bookcases, tables and drawers, among all other things. If possible, include electronics and gadgets that are appropriate for his or her age like television or radio. This will further make the place more special. In addition, you have to make sure that is properly decorated and well-organized. It should not only be neat and tidy but should also provide a comfortable and cozy feeling. As much as possible, walls should not be plain. Bright colors will more likely provide a comfy feeling to these children, which will further facilitate the fun they ought to have. 2) Emotional aspect. Your marketing strategy should not stop at selling the childrens bedroom furniture you bought for your child. You must also build up emotional security and assure them that you are still going to be there even when you are sleeping at different rooms. You have to show them that there are only physical walls between you, which cannot deter you from promoting your child\'s safety. It is important that you undertake a heart to heart talk between you and your child. Convince your child that this is an important stage in his or her life and will bear positive result, which may teach him or her learn precious lessons. Explain to him or her how this move can be really helpful for his or her growth, as well as your relationship as a family. Usually, children are afraid to separate from their parents, especially during sleep hours. They have too many things in mind due to their very broad imagination. They are typically more exposed to fantasies and false beliefs. This is a great opportunity for you to make him or her understand that there are things they need to learn beyond dealing with toys and kids furniture. Constant reassurance is an effective and inexpensive method. 3) Intellectual approach. Most children are easily moved by challenges. They like to portray themselves as heroes, as this is typically covered by their imaginative perspective. Parents can use such mental and logical reasoning to lure their children to move. The strategy is to challenge your child to take a step to maturity. You must state the benefits of such move and how he or she can use them at their advantage. You may tell them they can have their own stuffs, like KidKraft childrens furniture, which they can use and enjoy by themselves.
It is a great challenge for parents to convince their children to exercise their own independence. One step is to convince them to occupy their own rooms.
