What To Put in a Child's PlayroomSubmitted by jackmack Thu, 14 Apr 2011
A great way to keep your child's bedroom somewhere where they can sleep easily is to have a separate playroom. A common problem is that your child is far to stimulated when they go to bed as they are still surrounded by their toys and games that they have been playing with in the evening. When you want them to go to bed, close the playroom and this should shut off their ideas of playing and get them in the frame of mind for going to sleep.
Whether you already have a play room or you are looking to set up a new one, here are a few ideas of what to put in it. Computer games There is no escaping the extent to which children covet computer games. You will find it hard to find a child that is over a certain age who does not know how to play with most of the major computer games consoles and who will beg you incessantly until they have one of their own. If you want to put one in their playroom you may want to get them one which involves a certain amount of physical movement. The games for the Wii for example normally require the child to move around a lot to control the action. This should help you stop your child and their friends from turning into computer zombies. Soft play Another thing you can put in a playroom, if you have enough room, is a soft play area. This is basically an area with soft matting on the floor, maybe with a ball pool and some big shapes and blocks made of soft material that the kids can use to let off a bit of steam. It is safe and comfortable for them and if they don't want to roll around in it, it can also double as a rest area or quiet place for reading. Book shelves A book case stocked with lots of good childrens books is essential. By offering a selection of good books and encouraging your child to go to it often is a great way to help instil them with a passion for reading early on. Books for children come in an astounding variety so there is plenty to choose for your child from pop up books to story books. Storage Having lots of storage space is a really good idea as you will need to make sure they can tidy away their toys at the end of the day easily. Plus if they go outside from this room then you can have separate space for outside clothes and shoes to stop the room and the rest of the house getting mucky.
Sam Qam is a playroom designer and knows the best books for children. He always recommends a library area with good childrens books like Humphrey's Corner for every one of his playrooms.
