Which pushchair is right for you?

With so many 'baby transportation devices' on the market, first time parents might understandably feel a little out of their depth when embarking on this important and financially crippling shopping trip. How can you be sure, with so many factors to consider, that you're choosing the right buggy? Hopefully the list below will help you decide.

Off roader
Often trendy three wheelers, these are lightweight and sturdy. Pneumatic tyres make these pushchairs great for those who live in the countryside or want to jog round the park while pushing baby along. They are similarly useful for those who live in ares where the pavement is poor. Easy to steer, an attachment can be bought to adapt the pushchair so that it is suitable for new born babies.

Pramette
Traditional style prams which are excellent for new born babies until they are old enough to pull themselves upright. Seats are available which attach to the top of the pram for toddlers.

Twins and tandems
These are suitable for parents with a baby and toddler or twins / triplets. Double buggies come either with seats side by side or one in front of each other and are much more compact these days.

Travel Systems
These are pushchairs which incorporate car seats and carry cots, aimed at those who drive a lot. Great for keeping a baby asleep when transferring from and to the car.

Strollers and lightweight buggies
Generally four wheeled and forward facing, these pushchairs are easy to lift and usually compact with easy to use, one-handed mechanisms. They are normally issued with a rain cover and sun canopy.

Other points to consider are weight, size, manoeuvrability, the baby's comfort, handle height, suspension, forward or backward facing seats and what, if any, extra accessories might you need to purchase. If in doubt, browse the internet for reviews, as many reputable organisations have compared and published their findings on a vast range of pushchairs, which may help further.

Remember, pushchairs are supposed to make your life easier, so choose the style which best suits the life you lead.
