Make Yourself FamousSubmitted by soccio97 Sun, 28 Dec 2008
Maybe you don't think you need an agent and professional studio just yet. Maybe, if you had your own studio and and a couple of friends (preferably talented) you might be able to get started in the garage. Many famous acts started out in the "garage" as a result of the Rock n' Roll explosion of the 50's and 60's.
Garage Rock referred to groups and their music that was self recorded and promoted. Some quickly found managers and recording labels while others struggled for years. Some of the ones you may have heard of (if you're my age) are The Wailers (1958), The Kingsmen and Paul Revere and the Raiders (1963) and from 1964-1966 the Kinks, The Who, and The Rolling Stones. There are a lot more as you can imagine, if you can remember back that far, but too many to list here. Home recordings became popular for many reasons over the years. In some cases groups were rejected by the big labels but believed that they were talented enough to "make it". They therefore began recording their own music and then sending "demos' to recording companies, music managers and radio stations. Still others never intended to become the "next big thing" and were only doing it for their own satisfaction and to entertain friends and family. In any case, home recording has been around for years and is still very popular today. As with most things that manage to last through the years, equipment has changed and afford-ability has helped to fuel interest in Home Recording Studios. Years ago all you needed was space, a reel to reel recorder (remember those), drums, and a couple of guitars. Of course it also helped if you had someone (or a couple of someones) who could carry a tune. But as we learned over the years, that is not always necessary. These days things are a little more complicated if you want to be competitive. Now, besides the basic instruments like drums and guitars, you also need synthesizers, keyboards, mixing consoles, multi-track recorders and oh yes, the all important Digital Audio Workstation. In reality I don't know anything about this stuff. I know what music and artists I like but have little interest in how it's all put together. My only purpose is to provide you with all the information you can use on home recording equipment. I can do that best by directing you to my Home Recording Studio site at www.homestudio.tellmeaboutthat.com. So go and check it out and let me know what you think. You will find articles, links, sales and auctions for home studio must haves, as well as some other interesting items. Also check out the Hot Links tab at www.TellMeAboutThat.com to find sources of information on a wide variety of subjects.
