Memory foam mattress and coil spring mattresses are two popular mattresses that are extensively being used.

Coil springs, as found in most mattresses, are great for many things, except being in your bed. It has been over 140 years since the invention of the coil spring mattress. The modern ones are only slightly different than the original. Coil spring mattress is just a bed of springs covered by softer material. Without the softer outside material there would be no comfort at all.

Now, when the question arises which one is more superior then commonly answer that comes is memory foam mattress. A memory foam mattress possesses many features, which are not to be found in a coil spring mattress.

A memory foam mattress supports your entire body because the foam conforms to your shape. The coil spring mattress creates an opposite effect, where your body needs to fit to the mattress. This causes pressure on your body. The memory foam offers no resistance to your body weight. It doesn't push back so your body is able to keep its shape while the foam changes.

Memory foam also keeps a consistent temperature. The foam will regulate itself depending on your temperature. It takes in your heat and becomes soft. This draws heat from your body and keeps you comfortable. Coil spring mattresses are unable to do this. They cannot react to your body heat, and this is why someone, who is sick with a fever, would feel more comfortable on a memory foam mattress. Your body weighs the most and is the warmest part of you and the mattress makes itself softest for your body. However, for your arms and legs which are lighter and cooler, the foam is a little more firm - this is very comfortable.

Also, when we talk about the difference between the two, durability is a big factor. A normal coil spring mattress can suffice your purpose for about five years or little more. However, a memory foam mattress can last ten years easily without any compromise.

Coil spring mattresses do not such features as compared to Memory foam mattresses. They are neither temperature sensitive nor they conform to your body weight. With coil mattresses, it has been observed that many people wake up with aching muscles and stiffness.

Thus, with the advent of science and technology, you now have better options over the conventional coil mattresses. Memory form is the best bet if you are looking for a sound and healthy sleep.
