The Connection Between Parenting And Bible Reading

Depending on how long you've been a parent, you probably realize that parenting for Christians is a learning process. Not only are you raising children, but you are still required to follow God's Word and live an upright life. If you sometimes feel that there isn't enough grace in the world to help you be a better parent, then here are some simple principles to remember.

• Promote communication. You probably don't have to be told how important communication is when it comes to parenting for Christians. In fact, communication makes any type of relationship better. Proper communication methods can prevent small misunderstandings from developing into larger problems. One of the best ways to teach your children about the importance of communication is to show them how communication can have a positive effect on everyone involved. Since no one can read minds, by communicating with your children, you will help them to learn how to cope with difficult situations that they face in life.

• Kindness is key. Everyone has encountered adults that try to make your life miserable. And when you encounter those types of people, it seems that no matter how nice you are to them, they can always find a way to be mean. If you've ever wondered what that mean person's childhood was like, then you were probably on the right track. Many times, unkind children grow up to be unkind and unhappy adults because it takes much more effort and stress to be mean that it is to be nice. Let's not forget that Hebrews 12:14 tells us to "...be at peace with all men..." The more you strive to be at peace with others, the more peaceful life will be. The more you and your children learn to be kind to one another and to others, the more peaceful your household will be.

• Learn how to relax. Throughout a normal day, how often do you find yourself saying, "I am so stressed out!" Well, like most parents, you are probably all too familiar with the feeling of being "stressed out," however, the great news is, you are not alone in this parenting thing. You have Jesus there to help you and keep you calm. It's like you have your very own Therapist who is more than willing to help you in your quest to stop all of the stress. The last thing you want to do is be constantly aggravated with your kids because you are feeling the burden of stress. Instead of allowing your feelings to rule your life, make an effort to consciously ignore your feelings and build walk by faith and enjoy truly enjoy the blessing of Christian parenting.

• Read the Word. As Christians, we are called to live a life of faith, and with Christian parenting, Bible reading, is essential to learning the correct way to parent. Christian parenting Bible reading is important because raising Godly children takes faith, and Romans 10:17 reminds us that "...so faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." This means that the more you read the Bible, the more faith you will have. If you have more faith, then you will be better equipped to be a parent. Hebrews 11"6 says that "without faith it is impossible to please God," and we know that faith honors God, and God honors faith. In Christian parenting, Bible reading will help you to make the right decision so you can raise your kids effectively.
