Prams and Pushchairs Buying Guide

Submitted by John Lewis
Tue, 11 May 2010

Prams and pushchairs come in a number of different types such as conventional prams, lightweight 'strollers', flat-folding, umbrella-folding, three-wheelers and twin pushchairs just to name a few. So it is important to keep in mind your requirements and preference when choosing the pram or pushchair for you and your baby.

To make the best decision, it is vital that you filter out the many available options so that you can focus exactly on what you want. In order to filter out as many products as possible ask yourself the following questions.

- What are your needs as a parent?
- What is your lifestyle?
- What are you baby's needs?
- How often do you plan to use the pram or pushchair?

While looking to buy a pram or a pushchair you should always keep in mind of the following features:

Comfort:

You never want your baby to be uncomfortable, therefore make sure that the positioning and cushion of the seat provides maximum level of comfort to your baby. For a new born baby, a reclining position is best suited as it's easier for them to sleep straight.

Portability & Storage:

To make it portable, manufacturers have come up with various options, such as, lightweight strollers, flat-folding and umbrella-folding. As the pram or pushchair has to fit through your house, car and boot doors make sure that you have checked the size of product beforehand. This will avoid you buying an oversized pram or pushchair which you cannot use.

Durability/Sturdiness:

For your baby's safety and security it is crucial that you buy a pram that is strong enough to hold them. It is also essential to understand if you are going to use it on a daily basis or just one or two times a year. If you intend to use the pram to carry your baby from your car to the shops then the required durability and sturdiness will be much higher than compared to a pushchair that will be used to walk around the park.
