What Parents Can Do To Help Their Student Athletes With College Lacrosse RecruitingSubmitted by whemrick@gmail.com Thu, 23 Apr 2009
Parents of high school athletes know that it takes a great deal of work in order for their kids to win college athletic scholarships. There are several steps that you can take along the route of college lacrosse recruiting events that will prepare your son or daughter to succeed when they attend lacrosse recruiting camps and lacrosse recruiting showcases.
Before they even go to lacrosse recruiting camps or lacrosse recruiting showcases, there are several things students can do to prepare for these big events. One is to learn as much as possible from their high school lacrosse coaches and to play on the high school teams. Another is to work at their schoolwork, because college lacrosse recruiting staff will look at the GPA, as well as the SAT scores, as some of the criteria used for college team player selection. They will also want to set up a web page that features the student as well as includes full games and game highlights. Students will also want to begin a list of their top schools; as they progress through high school you will want to attend lacrosse recruiting showcases and lacrosse recruiting camps at those schools. This gives you a chance to check out the college campus, look at the dorms and even attend a class, to see what the college is like. Before you head out to lacrosse recruiting camps and lacrosse recruiting showcases, your son or daughter will want to notify the coaches from their list of top schools as to which recruiting events he or she will attend, so the coaches will be on the lookout for him or her. It can be a pressure-filled situation for a senior student to attend lacrosse recruiting camps and lacrosse recruiting showcases. As a parent, just by being there you can lend your support and assist your child through the process. As you meet other parents you will soon learn who the different coaches are, and make arrangements to meet them to learn more about the lacrosse athletic departments. You can also take some of the pressure off of your student by making sure they have appropriate food and get adequate rest during these events, so that they can play at their best. Ultimately, you will find yourself in more of a supporting role as your student athlete takes over most of the work of getting recruited at lacrosse recruiting camps and lacrosse recruiting showcases. Enjoy the process, and have fun at the camps and tournaments, and it will be a great time for the whole family.
