5 Tips For Bringing A New Puppy Home

Submitted by DanFletcher

If you are bringing a puppy home for the first time, you are about to experience a rewarding but demanding time in your life. There are many tips and techniques to help you with your new puppy. This article examines the basics of puppy care and some tips on how to get through it.

1) Vaccines - Vaccines are a good idea for every dog to help minimize both diseases and illness. By the time you get your puppy, the breeder should have already administered some vaccines. Be sure to check what vaccines have been given and when they were administered.

2) Feeding - Puppies should be fed dry puppy food and not normal dog food. Puppy food contains nutrients and proteins essential for a growing puppy.

3) Train Early - Training a new puppy is relatively easy when comparing it to training an older dog. Puppies are pretty receptive to training and therefore training should begin as soon as possible. Basic commands like stay and sit should be taught as well as toilet training.

4) Sleeping - Sleeping arrangements for your puppy should be decided upon well before you get your new puppy. Once you have let your dog know where it should be sleeping, it will be hard later down the track to move this to another spot. So unless you want your dog on the bed every night, resist the temptation of letting your puppy cuddle up with you.

5) Puppy Socialization - When your puppy is old enough, you should socialize it with other people, other dogs and other animals. This helps your dog to stay confident around others.

By following these simple puppy tips and tricks, you will be sure to have a cute puppy grow into a confident and loving dog. These tips will also help you and your family cope with the pressures that a new puppy can bring.
