Dalmation Training Can Help Solve Many Dog Problems

Submitted by RichardC

Through a 1956 novel and two Disney films, this spotted breed has gained popularity especially among families with children. Unfortunately, this popularity didn't bring much good but resulted to the breed suffering greatly from the hands of irresponsible breeders and owners who lack experience particularly in terms of dalmation training. If only owners are well aware of proper dalmation training, the number of dalmations abandoned and turned over in rescue shelters could have been lessened.

If you own a problematic dog right now, it's definitely not yet late to correct the behavior. There are many ways to lessen if not totally get rid of your pet's destructive behavior such as chewing, digging and jumping on people.

Dogs chew for variety of reasons; teething, to explore the things around them, boredom and separation anxiety. The best starting point to curtail this destructive behavior is to determine the reasons for its occurrence. Is your puppy on teething stage? Or maybe your dal is bored and is anxious when you are away. Provide enticing chew toys to prevent the young pup from gnawing your precious household items. When you see your pup chewing on things he is not allowed to chew, immediately replace it with chew toys. This training aims not to stop your dog from chewing but to channel his desire to appropriate things. If your pet has gone beyond the teething stage but still have chewing problem, providing exercise and challenging activities can do the trick in keeping him physically and mentally active, thus prevent boredom.

Dalmation training can also put a stop to destructive digging. Digging is natural among dogs so it is not surprising or uncommon if you cannot stop yours completely. One way to handle this situation is to provide a sandbox or to make a portion of the yard available for Spot to dig. Entice your pet to dig into these areas by adding half-buried toys. When you see your dog digging on other portion of the yard, distract him and take him to the digging area to continue digging there. Praise and give reward if he does.

The dalmation is not a difficult and stubborn breed. In fact, most of them are happy, playful and easy going breed. But problems and undesirable behaviors occur whether you like it or not, human-induced or not. And there is no use fretting if unfortunately chewing or digging problem occurred. Just make a little research about the problem, apply what is good for your pet and witness the transformation.
