Help Children and Enjoy MLB Dog Jerseys

Submitted by urlreader

There are many a pet lover out there who delight in adorning their dog with NFL dog collars (or perhaps MLB dog jerseys), and for whom, their dogs are their best friends, their constant companions. For others, putting a Nascar dog collar on their working dog seems a bit foolish, seeing as how the dog would only get it dirty, and what do sheep care if the dog is sporting a racecar driver's name about its neck. Regardless of what kind of dog you've got, you know the value in having canine friendship in your life. What you may not know, or haven't made the connection to, is how your dog, or any well-trained loving dog, can help others.

Studies have long shown that being raised in a household with a dog helps children to learn how to socialize. The empathetic skills to understand how another being feels and how one's actions affect others is greatly enhanced by having a dog. Here, children learn simple black and white truths- the dog is happy when you pet it- the dog likes to get treats- the dog is scared when somebody makes a loud noise- the dog is hurt if you accidentally step on its foot- the dog is annoyed if you pull its tail. All of these lessons translate (not always literally, such as with the tail-pulling) into human interaction.

Dogs are also used in several forms of therapy, where they can help children improve their self-esteem and self-confidence. They can also be used to help children heal. In cases where children have been neglected and abused, there is a cycle of abuse that becomes perpetuated in their own lives. Learning to care for animals can place them in the role of a nurturer, which breaks that cycle. Learning to love and care for another being is a very powerful gift for those children.

Caring for wounded animals is a experience that carries a very similar weight. When children are allowed to care for a puppy or a dog that is injured, they often relate to the animal, as they themselves might feel they are injured or broken in some way. As the animal heals, it has a certain power of transference in helping the child to heal their own wounds. Children who have suffered abuse or neglect in the past can also benefit from these experiences.
