How many times have our youngsters begged us to get them a cat or a dog? For many of us the first answer that comes to our minds is an absolute ‘No'. Yet, for some reason they can't take this for an answer and each time they ask they wear us down a little bit.

For a few of us it can years till we give in - but for others it can be much sooner. It may really be rather fun to have a pet to add to the family - but we have to ensure that we are doing the proper strides to make sure that the house is set up for them.

Before you bring them back to the home there are a couple of things you should do. The first thing is to remove all belongings that you don't want them to be biting on and place them out of reach. You must lock up all of your shoes and any cables that are sticking out need to be covered.

The second they come to your house you need to show them to their private place. For the kittens you need to show them just where they can use the litter box. For dogs you will be able to select a place where all of their toys and their new bed will be.

One thing you will be able to do and that is not always essential is to set up a sliding glass dog door. These are great to have because they give your puppy admittance to the yard - which should be fenced in - so that they are able to use the bathroom when needed.
