Dogs are men's best friend. So wouldn't you build your friend a home? You don't need to buy one, you can build one! Assuming that you have a puppy, find out how you build a small dog house by reading the hints below.

Step 1: Research and Design
You can look through all small dog house plans that you can get online, from the library or from pet stores. See which design suits your dog best. The plan must also be suitable with the layout of your home. With all these information as references, you will have an idea on how to build your own dog house.

Sketch your design on a piece of paper with correct measurements. You won't want to have a dog house that is out of proportion. Make sure you build one of the right size so that it won't be too big for a small dog. Remember to make a roof to protect your dog from the harshness of the weather.

You must also remember to design a base that is easy to carry when you want move the house. This situation usually happens during the colder climates.

Step 2: Buy and Build
Once you've got the designs, proceed to the hardware shop and buy your materials. Choose some heat-resistant materials so that when your dog is inside its home, he will feel comfortable. If the house is too hot, your dog will not want to go in.

Make a small slope sliding down at the entrance so that water can flow out. Otherwise, your dog house will be damp and flooded. Put the house at a cool and shady place. Even dogs need to have shade too.

When you are done cutting and sawing the necessary materials for the house, you can either paint them first or after connecting them as a house. Painting is done to touch up and to make the new dog house new. It also acts as a cover up of minor mistakes that you might have made.

Building a dog house for your best friend is the most satisfying job for any dog lovers. You will feel great that you have put in your best effort to ensure that your furry friend is comfortable.
