Yorkies for Sale!

Submitted by naplesdave

Yorkie puppies for sale! Today when you see those four words, there's action. Because of their recent popularity, Yorkie puppies are in high demand.

A Yorkshire Terrier, or Yorkies, as they are called, are the second most popular dog breed in the United States, passed only by the Labrador Retriever. These cute puppies for sale by dog rescue and Yorkie Dog Breeders are small, weighing in at 7 pounds or less.

Many Yorkie puppy breeders will tell you that the "tea cup" nomination does not mean anything other than the smallest of the breed. And, a Toy Yorkie does not mean frail or fragile.

Do Yorkies Shed?

Yorkies have long hair, but they have no undercoat. An undercoat is the part that sheds - and which may cause allergies to some people. Yorkie puppies and full grown Yorkies have hair much like humans which grows and falls out. Plus, Yorkies have less dander so they don't have that "wet dog" smell.

A pure bred Yorkie will have straight hair, not wavy. If the Yorkshire Terrier is a show dog, the coat requires many hours of brushing each day. It's not uncommon to see a Yorkie in rice paper covering the beautiful coat when between showings at competition.

The Yorkie has a medium tail because it is traditionally docked, or cut, by the breeder when a puppy. Since the early 1990's there has been a movement afoot to ban this practice, however, your Yorkie will probably have a medium tail.

Are Yorkies Good with Kids?

Yorkies are Terriers, and Terriers are intelligent and independent. Yorkies are courageous, acting much bigger than they are. They fit in with families very well but are bold and may not be suitable for kids and small children. Yorkies often bark at strangers, but it has been found that this is due to how the owner trains the animal.

Yorkies are from England, and were bred to kill rats in confined areas. They sought out critters that burrowed. Animals that are cornered will fight back to protect their young. A dog that would willingly pursue that animal must have a great deal of courage. Terriers are that kind of dog.

Yorkshires are from Yorkshire, England - a northern region. They were introduced to America in 1872. More information can be found at Three Best Dogs.
