Planning An Overseas Vacation With Children

Submitted by Osborne
Sat, 9 Apr 2011

Young children are incredible fun when allowed to simply be children. Unfortunately those without kids of their own often frown upon sharing spaces with them on long flights or in other confined areas.

Let's be honest here, the little angels aren't always a day at the park. They may become downright obnoxious if left to their own devices.

1. Keep Travel to a Minimum: Bored children are often loud and seemingly unruly. Noise often causes people around you to react unpleasantly, no matter the age of the youngsters. Minimizing the time required for plane or bus rides also minimizes the chances that they will become bored.

2. Look for Family Friendly Locations: Many European destinations offer family friendly hotels and other lodging. Majorca, for example, is a mere 2 hour flight from the UK and offers incredible opportunities for children to be themselves.

3. Consider Renting a Villa: Villas are usually privately owned or may be in a small area with other similar villas. They're usually 3 or 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and include a private pool. A private pool should be reconsidered for people with very small children.

Most villas are within easy travel distance from other amenities, yet far enough away for young kids to have fun without bothering people above or below them.

4. Take Some Entertainment: Yes, you're on vacation and you want your kids to experience new things. This experience doesn't mean they have to leave behind everything they love. Allow them to take their favorite movies or games to occupy them when you want some quiet time.

5. Visit the Balearics: The Balearic Islands are probably the perfect holiday spot for European families. A short, 2-hour flight is all it takes from the UK to start a Majorca holiday for example and each of the islands is teeming with activities kids will enjoy.

6. Keep it Exciting: Probably the most important piece of advice ever given when traveling with kids; keep it exciting. Visit old ruins, go boating, and take local steam train rides from Palma de Majorca to Soller. Don't miss the local attractions that are sure to capture the attention of kids.

Be creative while planning an overseas holiday with children. Don't stick to the same old hotel room and beach theme year after year. Plan a holiday that will knock your family's socks off.

Plan a lot of family friendly activities so your entire family feels included. Let each person choose something different to do for a few hours each day. Take advantage of some of the incredible offers at select hotels and resorts including childcare for a few hours.

Many restaurants around the Balearic Islands welcome the entire family and even plan special features for children. The islands of Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera are inhabited by people who love life and it shows. They welcome people from all walks of life.

Residents of the islands and employees at the facilities frequently visited by travelers enjoy sharing rich stories with those they encounter. An overseas holiday with children to some of Europe's most historic locations should be used as a learning experience for the entire family. Children should know the rich culture from which they come as part of their education.

For those looking for low cost flights to Mallorca visit yourmajorca.net for the latest airfare offers.

As an alternative to hotels on the island for those who prefer Portugal they have a section dedicated to Algarve villa holidays
