Here's a list of frequently asked question regarding pregnancy. The purpose of this list is to answer your questions, find some new knowledge and avoid future mistakes, and ultimately - have a happy and healthy pregnancy.

Should my husband accompany me during labour?

Yes. It's really nice to have your husband with you since labour is a long process and can be lonely if you're alone. Unless your husband doesn't want to be there, i.e. he's scared to blood, you can have other relative or close friend to accompany you.

Should I breastfeed my baby immediately after the birth?

Yes. You should offer your baby your breast and leave it up to him. There won't be any milk but the sucking can comfort the baby.

How do I know if I'm in labour?

Don't worry. You will most likely recognize if you're in labour. The most usual signs are:
A show which is a plug of thick blood stained mucus,
Your water breaks
Contractions

Is there any pain relief for labour?

Yes. The safest way is the relaxation and breathing exercise. Otherwise there are epidural, entonox, and pethidine.

Will I damage my vagina during the birth?

No. Your vaginal walls are elastic and made of folds so they can stretch to allow the baby through.

How soon can I have sex after giving birth?

When both of you are ready. Remember to take it slowly and relax as much as you can. Use extra lubricants if necessary since your vagina may be drier than usual.

Do I have to use contraception?

Discuss with your doctor about this, and he will give a selection of contraceptions. If you want to take pill, make sure to let your doctor knows if you breastfeed.
