The Zen of Floor Waxing

Polishing, waxing and cleaning (Oh My!) hard surfaced-floors doesn’t have to be a long, laborious job, at least not if you follow several specific steps. First, try keeping your floors as clean as possible; nothing if more difficult than removing week-old floor stains. Some neat folks only have to clean their floors once a week or so, but their messier counterparts will need to wash their floors more often. For spot cleaning, you’ll simply need to mop with water, but for deep scrubbings, you’ll want to know how to apply floor wax.

Floor wax is a double-edged sword meaning that once a year, you’ll need to remove build up floor wax. Built up wax can especially discolor original tiles and linoleum in older homes. 4. Keep a bucket of cool water handy
5. Mop the floor – be sure to squeeze the mop as dry as possible, then rinse with cool water

How to Apply Floor Wax

There are several things you must know about how to apply floor wax before you begin the endeavor. First, to ensure your floor is as clean as possible, be sure to wash it then give it time to dry. If your floor hasn’t had a good cleaning in a while, you’ll need to follow the steps for removing built up floor wax.

Search online for the most effective maintain your floors. You may also look through various books and magazines at your local library or bookstore.

One way to remove built up floor wax is to wash your floor, using a mop or sponge, with a blend of detergent, ammonia, and water. Then wait several minutes for the old wax to soften, then use a steel wool or a strong cleaning brush and scrub to the very level of the old wax. And easier way is to use a non-abrasive wax stripper .

After you remove built up floor wax you’ll need to learn how to properly apply floor wax. Your main goal, so far, is to ensure that the floor is clean. After all, what is the point of a beautiful shone atop of a dirty floor.

Make sure you know what your floor is made of since different floorings require different types of floor waxing polishing and cleaning. Many homes have the basic vinyl and linoleum, but newer homes often have such materials as marble, tile, hardwood, or wood composites, among other things.
