A Concept of Global VillageSubmitted by customessays
Nowadays, he or she can travel half way around the world in the same time by air. The result has been a staggering increase in the volume of international travel and trade. The number of international visitors to France each year is now about the same as the total population.
What really defines the borders of a village? Nature takes the first step in determining borders between people. When People settle in together within some space and start develop a sense of belonging to some group, they start defining their borders. Borders actually limit people's ability to interact with each other. Business has always been trying to stretch the boundaries of borders. Trying to sell and contact the other person across the border has urged business to find ways to cross borders. Business guides researches towards achieving its goals. Revolution in communication technology has opened the door for business to jump over borders and reach more people. In spite of faster means of transportation, physical space would always exist between people. Innovations in communication technology have enabled audible and visible communication between people no matter how distant they are. A decade ago, letters carried by sailing-ship might take a month to get from Europe to America; but now, messages travel at the speed of thought anywhere around the globe, by telephone, fax, or email. Many changes are happening. We can travel and communicate further and faster than ever before. We are more globally interconnected. Distance in the sense of ease of connection is crumpling in all kinds of uneven and unequal ways. The geography of the world as we experience it is being twisted and contorted so as to bear very little relation to the physical distances that are involved. The cultural gaps, the social distances, the gulfs in understandings of the world, despite everything, remain strong. And increasing inequality ensures this is so. Advancing technology has been the crucial factor in drawing together the global village. So what are the challenges of being a Global Village? Language and culture are main challenges. One way to tackle this problem is employing student exchange programs. Under graduate and graduate exchange students help improve understanding and dealing with foreign languages and cultures. First hand experience in dealing and living in other cultures can be gained. To better prepare for the expected global village, we should all prepare for the changes to come. We should try to make friends from around the world to better understand and accept different cultures and traditions. We should be supportive and curious of differences towards becoming international citizens. Gabriel Rise has been experiencing in About the Author
