How To Get Started with Internet Affiliate Marketing Programs

Internet affiliate marketing programs have been around for quite some time now, and they’re still one of the best ways to get started earning an income online. In this article, I’ll explain how to find some of the best programs available and how to get started with them. Any article such as this has insufficient scope to go into any great detail, but my aim is to give you enough information to get you started.

So what are Internet affiliate marketing programs? Think about the scenario where one person creates some sort of product (usually a digital one, such as an eBook, but this also applies to hard goods, too). If the person that created the product then tries to sell it alone, they would have to be an outstanding salesperson to earn a significant income. But what if 10 people sold it on his behalf and took a percentage of the sale as a commission? What about if thousands sold it in this manner – all taking a percentage of the sale price? These people would all be “affiliates” – they’re selling someone else’s product, and being paid a percentage to do so.

In some cases, you can even have multi-tier affiliate programs – usually no more than 2 levels. In these cases, you would have a smaller number of people who are really good at finding OTHER people to sell the affiliate products. These people would typically get a smaller percentage, but they’d get that percentage from the sales of all the people that THEY recruit to do the selling for them. The people doing the selling, on the other hand, would still receive a similar level of commission as with single-tier programs.

Now, if everyone who created an affiliate program only promoted it from their website, you should be able to see that they’d still have to be potent Internet marketers in order to build a significant number of affiliates. Due to this, affiliate marketplaces have been created which allow product creators and affiliate marketers to connect and in most cases, even handling the payments. I’m going to talk about a few of these here, although you’ll have to Google for them as links aren’t allowed….

Clickbank
This is the Granddaddy of them all! Clickbank has been around for many years now and is well established, with tens of thousands of products available for the affiliate marketer to promote. Many people simply stick with Clickbank as there’s so much available that it truly can be a one stop shop! They have a simple, tried and tested means of creating affiliate links for you which you can use to promote.

PayDotCom
This is a more recent contender that was setup to address some frustrations that some product owners were having with Clickbank. From the publishers side, it’s significantly more flexible than Clickbank and hence more powerful. From the affiliates stand point, it’s a great program to check out and is gaining massive momentum every day!

Amazon
Amazon (and their country specific subsidiaries) offer their ‘Associates’ program, which is essentially an affiliate program for selling their books. Just like the electronic product sales, as an affiliate, you don’t need to worry about the shipping etc – Amazon takes care of everything.
