Kids these days have more choices than any kids in any generation before them

Kids these days have more choices than any kids in any generation before them. Just go to the grocery store and pick any product, say fruit juices, and you will see that this is true-concentrated, fresh, carbonated, combined flavors, powdered, bottled, tetra packed, pulp, sweetened, unsweetened, fortified, and so on. Not to mention that there are hundreds of brands offering all these array of fruit juice choices. Kids grow up with advertisements and millions and millions of media messages every waking day of their lives (perhaps even in their dreams) that they can become world-weary and jaded by the tender age of ten, that nothing can surprise or awe them as, for example, we as kids being awed by a spider spinning a web at that age. For them everything is a novelty, disposable and just-as-soon outdated.

We as parents contribute to this weariness and jadedness. After all, we are the ones who buy them their junk food and carbonated soda in different flavors and the latest toys and gadgets. When we do this, we feed their notion that everything is disposable and replaceable. Every object that gets in their hands has little value and will soon be replaced by a better version (in less than a month). As convenient as it is to buy cheap plastic toys that they will soon get tired of anyway, we should think twice about doing so. Timeless toys and classic favorites such as wooden train sets, while a bit more expensive, will teach them better values and can save you some money in the long run.

Forget instant gratification. In money, in life, in love, in school, in our diets we\'ve always known that it\'s just not worth it. Investing for the long term is a lot more worthwhile pursuit. From an early age we should already teach the value of timelessness verses novelty by buying our kids toys that can last for a long time or even forever. Wooden trains are such toys that can be passed on from one generation to another. Because it is made from natural materials and is crafted by human hands (as opposed to factory-made toys that are constructed by machines), wooden toy trains have more intrinsic and aesthetic value. It can be enjoyed by any age, from a toddler to a grandfather. Even if your kid gets tired of playing with a train set, you can always use it as a decoration in his or her bedroom, in the den, office, recreational room, or playroom. Because it is made of wood, it can go with almost any design motif!

One of the best things about wooden toys is that they are ecological. Because they are made from sustainable materials, i.e. wood, they do not pollute the planet as compared to plastic toys that do not decompose and will go on existing even when you and your children are long gone from the planet. They are also durable and not fragile so they are safe and can last forever. Because they are timeless pieces, they do not become passé, remaining popular as toy trends come and go.

this is an excellent article about the value of timeless toys for kids
