Having a domain name that is relevant to your topic is a key component to any successful blog marketing campaign. It is ALWAYS best to own the domain name since it gives you more control and enables you to 'brand' this name for your blogging purposes.

Free sites are all well and good but if you plan to make a serious impact you'll want to host your own site with your own domain name. You will be regarded more highly this way!

Post Regularly

By maintaining a regulated posting schedule your readers will know to expect fresh content encouraging them to visit more frequently.

As readers post comments learn to read and react to them. Whether it is a suggestion or perhaps an expressed interest, give your readers what they want. It is after all the readers you are writing for.

If your intent is to make money blogging you'll want to set up some system allowing you to optimize your blog. You may select to display banners or text ads. Perhaps you may choose to place links within your post to an off site sales pages. Choose what is comfortable for you and works best within your blog marketing campaign.
