Nothing brings to mind the comfort of home more than the smell of scented candles.

All you need to create them yourself is to combine scented oils and fragrance-free candles. Although essential oils can be purchased from local stores, why not create them from your own garden?

Pick your favorite scented blooms and place them in a sealable plastic bag. Bruise them with a rolling pin or pound them with the edge of a saucer to release the essential oils. Warm a carrier oil such as light olive oil or almond oil and pour enough in the bag to cover the flower petals. Massage gently and pour the mixture into a clean container with lid. Allow to infuse overnight. The next morning, strain the flower petals from the oil and discard them. Gather more flowers from your garden and, using the retained oil from the first batch, repeat the process. The fragrance will become more pronounced with each infusion. Your homemade scented oil can then be used to make your scented candles.

Melt a purchased candle in a tin can placed in a pan of water over low heat. When it has thoroughly melted, add several drops of your personal scented oil into the wax and stir. Add more if needed. Hold one of the other candles by the base of the wick with tongs and roll it around in the melted wax to coat completely. Be careful as the can will be hot. Place the coated scented candle on aluminum foil to cool. Repeat with other candles you want dipped in your scented oil. Allow the candles to cure in a dark corner for several days before lighting.

You now have scented candles to give as gifts or to enjoy yourself made with scented oils from your own garden.
