How to make your Myspace Account PrivateSubmitted by itschloe Thu, 26 Apr 2007
It is really important to know that it is not necessary to lie about your age just to make your MySpace profile private. Please be aware that lying about the age is against MySpace rules and it means your account is subject to deletion. If you want to have your profile private there are other procedures to do so.
Be aware that others users can still view your basic profile page which means that some information such as gender, age and location will still be available to anyone even if your profile is set to private. But your full profile page containing your more detailed information will only be viewed by the ones you approved as a friend. To make the full profile page visible to your MySpace friends only, you need to login to your account and select and click on Account Settings. Once you have clicked on Privacy Settings, you now have a number of choices on who you want to see your profile. For example, you can choose the following: My Friends Only Public Only Users over 18 You may also try other privacy settings like for example, you can have friend request that require either last name or email. Or you can try hiding online from your profile page and maybe choose whether your birthday will shown or not to your friends. For the last option always keep in mind that you can’t change the fact that your age will be shown to all other users from your basic profile page. Keep in mind that with just this bit of information like your name and date of birth anyone could play or put you in danger because this can be used to have your identity be stolen. There are other privacy selections from the Privacy Settings that includes only your friends can view your blog comments or to choose that no friend requests from bands. Another way is to block the users who are below 18 from communicating with you. Although you can fully make your profile private, as we discussed earlier, the best way to protect yourself is to always keep in mind the basic safety tips about posting such confidential information on your page. Always remember to make your blog comments private along with your private profile to exercise caution about what you post. Do not write anything that you wouldn’t like other to know like your personal information and make it easier for them to locate you. Lastly, do not post anything that might haunt or embarrass you in the future. About the Author
