Finding Products to Sell on Ebay

Submitted by andyeliason

Successful online selling depends on actually having something to sell. Seems obvious, right? But more than that, if you want to do more than make an occasional profit you'll need a steady stream of products to sell on eBay. This is where things get a little more complicated, but it's still within anyone's reach.

People find items to sell on eBay from various sources. And my guess is that when you hear the phrase: "sell on eBay" a certain image, at the very least, flits around the back of your mind. This image is of people scrounging through cluttered attics, garages, and basements looking for that special item. Or the image might be of the bargain hunter, running from yard sale to yard sale hoping to capture an overlooked treasure.

I've seen this myself, as I frequented a local second-hand store with a friend that subscribed to this "business model". We could spend large amounts of time there as she wandered the isles trying to find the best items to sell on eBay. And she wasn't the only one there with this intention. Every time a new cart filled with products was wheeled out to the floor, a surprisingly well behaved and quiet and large mob converged on it to get first dibs.

I was often surprised to learn what items she said would sell on eBay well. She'd tried everything from electronics to toys to plastic containers to Boy Scout awards with varying levels of success. She did manage to sell at a fairly steady rate, but that probably had something to do with the boxes and crates and piles of... well... junk that she had stored in her house.

There was, in fact, nowhere to sit.

There is a better way to find products to sell on eBay. One that has a number of advantages over the stereotypical image of an eBay seller. While the rummage sale method certainly can yield a couple gems, drops shipping has given online sellers the chance to sell the exact items they want, when they want.

Drop shipping is the process of sellers listing and promoting a product, and then collecting the payment. They then transfer the order to the supplier who takes care of all the fulfillment and ships the product directly to your customer. You never even have to handle the products yourself.

The intrinsic benefits to selling on eBay in this manner are many. To begin with, drop shipping has a very low cost entry point into selling online. This is due to the fact that the initial capitol investment for inventory is so low. Why so low? Because you don't need to buy any upfront inventory. You only send the supplier money once the customer has already made a purchase.

Next, if you find the right drop shippers you can offer new, name brand products. No more dealing with items of questionable quality. You will know exactly what you are selling and the customer will know exactly what they are getting.

Drop shipping also helps you minimize the risks involved with selling on eBay. You don't have to worry about getting stuck with suddenly unpopular items that you have to take a significant loss on just to get them moving.

You'll also be able to take advantage of more flexibility and more free time. As the market changes you won't be locked into a specific product, nor will you be spending endless hours packing up items and standing in endless post office lines. With this extra time on your hands you'll be able to keep up to date with industry trends and make the best decisions for your business.

And finally, perhaps best of all, you'll always have a place to sit in your own home.
