Online Wood Furniture Shopping

Submitted by tonton
Sat, 9 Feb 2008

We usually purchase furniture from a physical store. It may be located in a big mall, or it may just be a small shop in the neighborhood. But even if we have access to a lot of furniture stores, we just can’t find the perfect piece that we are looking for. Thanks to modern technology, furniture shopping can be done online. The Internet provides a means by which suppliers of furniture from around the world can display their wares in virtual stores. Just by typing the correct keywords in a search engine, we can access several online furniture shops and browse several of them all at the same time.

Our dream furniture is only just a click away. But what factors must we consider especially if we are buying delicate pieces, such as those made of wood? If we let ourselves be tempted by the attractive pictures on a furniture store website and make our purchase immediately without even giving some thought about it, we might just end up buying inferior-quality furniture. Before we even click on the Add to Shopping Cart button, we have to ask ourselves a few questions first.

1. Is the online vendor reliable? Is the company’s website popular among Internet furniture shoppers? A good way to check is to take a look at testimonials in the company’s website, if there are any. You can also do a little investigating about the company. Search for reviews about it.
2. What are the terms and conditions of the online store? Look it up in their website. It may seem long, but shed off your laziness and read through the entire thing. Make sure you are aware of their policies.
3. Will the company make you shoulder the shipping costs? If yes, how much?
4. Is shipping insurance provided for? A reliable company should have their shipments insured so that if they are damaged while in transit, they will either pay for the damages or replace the orders. Usually, shipping insurance is included in the shipping cost.
5. What kind of wood is the furniture made of? Read whether it is solid wood or if it contains lower-quality materials such as plywood or particle board.
6. Were the designs meticulously done? Take note of the wood veneers and carvings. There is no other way of checking this except by looking at the provided picture closely. If you are not satisfied with the available photo, you can try emailing the company for more photos.
