Sending And Receiving a Drop Shipment

Sites like eBay are extremely popular places for buyers and sellers to conduct transactions. They allow anyone who wants to make money online - from large corporations to single individuals trying to clean out their attic - to list items and make sales. These are also the places where buyers who are looking for great savings, extra convenience, or for that one special, unique item.

Until now, though, it has been a difficult and time consuming process for sellers to deal with the packaging and shipping requirements, and it has been a deterrent for buyers because they might question the professionalism or quality of the business procedures employed by the seller.

A drop shipment from a supplier, however, has gone a long way toward alleviating these problems. Making a drop shipment is an easy process that that starts with the seller listing an item on an online auction or their own eCommerce website or even through a catalog. These are products offered at a discount or at wholesale prices - a price point in which the retailer can make a sufficient profit - and they must be made available for drop shipping from the supplier.

The seller is then in charge of promoting the item in any way they see fit and collecting the payment once the purchase is made. The seller then transfers the order and the product cost to the supplier, retaining the difference for themselves. The supplier takes care of the actual drop shipment, or in other words, the packaging of the product and shipping it directly to the customer.

It's simple, and it's efficient. And all the receiving end has to worry about is signing for the item (if that). They can rest assured that a company with all the necessary resources is carefully handling the product and making sure that it reaches them as quickly as possible.

There are a number of other benefits to using a drop shipment supply chain management model. The first and most obvious advantage is that there is no need for the seller to keep any inventory in stock. Aside from the obvious space you'd save (not to mention money from store rooms and warehouses) you will also be saving a lot of space. (Saving Time and Space? When did this become a Star Trek episode?) Time is a valuable resource in the business world, and even more so on the Internet.

Time can be used to research the market place, work on customer relationships, and really develop your business. It doesn't have to be wasted on packing countless little items or standing in endless post office lines. You can be the one positioned to take advantage of industry trends and attract the most customers to your professional and responsive business.

This kind of flexibility is also a direct result of making drop shipments. You're never going to be locked into any given product line. If the market changes, if companies stop making the product, or even if you're just tired of selling the same old things, you can change your offering and shift your business focus. This is something that could never happen under more traditional supply chain management.

When you make drop shipments you can quickly and easily get involved with eCommerce and start making money online. With no upfront capitol investment and the chance to get and offer the best prices, and take advantage of incredible flexibility, you'll be able to sell professionally, and your customers will continue to conduct transactions with you.

The online world is very competitive, and and not everyone can succeed... but with the proper research, effort, and the right suppliers to take care of your drop shipment needs, you can be one of the sellers who beats the odds.
