Working at Home: Not for Everyone

Submitted by dtheta613

Unless you have been living under a rock, you have probably seen some sort of advertisement for some sort of home based online business. Maybe it was for an e-book, or some sort of "system" that will set you up to make big bucks, or something in between. The thought of making a lot of money online attracts a lot people. Most people just brush it off thinking it's a scam. However a thought that's been stuck in my mind sometime is that yes, earning a full time income from home would be nice. But what if everyone did that?

Our economy would completely collapse if everyone tried to work from home with an online business. It's the people working 40+ hours a week who developed the computer you are using to read this article, the servers that are hosting this website, and the electronic parts that make up those servers. They most likely make much less than the people who manage to make an income from an online business. Don't forget all those people running those stores where you can buy your clothes, electronics, and food. Not to mention the engineers and scientists working to make life better for people. Let's not forget everyone who works in the government, need I say more? And that's just the tip of the iceberg. What's the point of going to college if anyone can make their own online business? College is already expensive as it is, and it will only become even more expensive. All that time, money, and work that is spent for several years for a degree, and all for what? A doctor who spent their entire life learning everything there is to know about medical practice, only to leave the field to run an online business? Give me a break. A savvy high school drop out could theoretically make more than the person who got perfect grades their whole life and got every award imaginable. And the thing is our society needs those store owners, scientists, workers, and everyone else out there working a job. It is how the whole system works and it's not changing anytime soon.

Of course, this is all hypothetical. Only a relatively small amount of the population is actually interested in running an online business full time. There's plenty of people working a full time job, and running a part time online business for some extra cash. Maybe they love their job. Or the socialization that comes with working. Here's something to keep in mind, when you work at home, all the nice conversations, parties, meals and hanging out with your co-workers? That's gone for good. Good luck finding new friends when you're someone who makes money without leaving your home, while people out there work for hours and hours to make ends meet. But if you make a lot of money all from the comfort of your own home, then who cares?

My point is, is that making a lot of money online would be a wonderful thing. But you can't just ignore the people out there with careers, the people working to make society better, the people trying to aid the needy, and everyone in between. If you really want to start your own online business, then by all means go for it and do your best to make it succeed. Maybe your job doesn't pay enough and you want some extra cash in your pocket, and an online business would be a great way to make some more money. But if you're just sort of iffy, don't quit your day job.
