A lot of people who use pay per click advertising test out various different ads using a number of different keywords until they find ones that are profitable. They will then usually stick with these ads all year round and never test out any new ones. However the smart marketers will be preparing their campaigns for any upcoming seasons or holidays.

These advertisers are the ones who are really going to get very wealthy through PPC. It's relatively easy to identify one or two profitable campaigns but it's a lot harder to generate huge numbers of profitable campaigns that will really being in the big profits. However it is a lot easier when you create ad campaigns at specific times of the year when there are certain seasonal trends that you can profit from.
It's these trends, and the various keywords that are associated with these trends, that you want to use in your campaigns. Many PPC marketers will use keyword tools to find keywords to advertise on but of course the seasonal keywords will not show up, or will have very low volume because they are based on previous months' data.

So the real skill is planning your ad campaigns several weeks in advance of any change in season or any particular seasonal event and anticipating which keywords are going to be popular. This doesn't have to be that difficult either because if you're quick off the mark, then you can often steal a march on other advertisers and bid on certain keywords while they are still cheap and relatively undiscovered.

Of course the biggest season or holiday period is Christmas. This is the time when you want to be ramping up your PPC campaigns as its the one time of the year when people really start spending their money.

Many people will be buying gifts this time of the year but rather than bid on the obvious items, it's often a good idea to look at the new recently released products. These will be a lot less competitive and will therefore have cheaper keywords. So you should start planning your campaigns a few months in advance and do some research to uncover those new products that are likely to sell well this Christmas.

The biggest sellers and the most profitable products are often children's toys. If you can identify the likely top sellers, then you could make vast profits if you bid on keywords related to these products over the Christmas periods.

In all these instances you do need a good landing page or website that encourages the PPC visitors to buy these products, but if you can do this, maybe through testing a month or two in advance, then you can really make some huge profits when the Christmas period does arrive. The same applies for other seasons or seasonal events so always prepare your landing pages and keywords in advance, test them out, and then you will hopefully make very handsome returns when the time comes.
