What is better: a blog or a regular website. Many times, we have heard that blogs are more search engine friendly than a regular website. Everyone probably knows that Google loves blogs. That is true, but there is nothing different about blogs that Google loves.
The fact is, blogs are updated more often and they usually have more content compared to a regular website. Search engine appreciates the content and the updating of the content. Search engine likes lots of content, not just content but fresh contents. If you create a static website and a blog on the same topic and write fresh content on a regular basis for both of them, they will have equal rankings. There is nothing about the structure of a blog site that makes it more SEO friendly compared to a regular static website. It's just that adding content is a lot more easier and quicker; due to this reason, more content is placed on the blog compared to a regular website.
For smaller reasons, it is not mandatory to constantly update your content to stay on top ranking. There are many websites that have been indexed by Google since so long and there are absolutely no changes to these websites and they still rank on the first page. However, if you're in a very highly competitive area, such as weight loss, home mortgages, insurance, or dating, then more effort is required to maintain your top rankings because there are many other websites constantly using SEO techniques and trying to get ranked on first page.
Search engine appreciates fresh content, when you're in competition with many other websites, if you maintain fresh content and optimize it on a regular basis then you have an advantage over other websites. It's very important that updating of the content is important; however, If your niche is small, and your page is ranking well, do not modify the page. For example, if you have a small niche website in a small area, and it's ranking very well and you believe that it's important to change the content on a regular basis, this might make negative effect on your website ranking. It happens many times that changing the content may inadvertently change the way Google sees your website, therefore, dropping you off of the first page.
If your page ranking is on position number ten and you want to move up, the safest way to do this is to get more original content along with more pages to your website. Now you can have multiple pages ranking for the same keywords.
