Avoid brand links

Submitted by byerwills

To boost your internet marketing campaign, it would need to have quality and relevant links coming into your website. To get sites to the top of the search engines, it has been professed that the links need to be anchor text rich, which is true. But not many people use their brand names to get better exposure.

In the past, it was easy to obtain positions in the search engines. You would put up a website, keyword stuff the meta tags on mass, and get positions within a week. Unfortunately, those days are now gone, and with the advent of the Google algorithm, there are more hoops to jump through before you are worthy of high position rank.

You have to now take into account a full strategy before kicking off search engine optimization marketing. Keyword analysis of your industry will establish the best terms to target and go for. These can be long tail as well as primary. In fact with the long tail terms you will able to nail more of the market as you will dominate all smaller terms, which will put you in good stead for achieving top terms.

However, what is interesting is that Google doesn't just look at keyword rich anchor text. It also gives some value to brand in anchor text. The best place to see this is if you carry out a backlink analysis of a site that is well known in a particular industry and comes up for the top terms. Once you review this site and reverse engineer it you will see that the majority of the top performing sites in Google all have one particular thing in common... balance.

Having a good balance of well placed links from different sources, as well as niche and primary terms, as well as a small percentage of branded links, will give the site more overall balance, and will look totally natural, as appose to an over optimised site with just keyword rich anchor text links coming to the site.
